The night'south game had come to a sudden close thanks to a certain two demigods.

Everyone had been scattered throughout the wood while the Ares Cabin offensive team moved steadily towards the enemy flag, demolishing everyone in their path. Information technology seemed similar victory was certain, even so they weren't going to call it but however.

The Athena cabin had stealthily fanned out from their base where they had merely finished strategizing. Soon the grouping of warriors were surrounded by Athena's kids, blocked in by the bodies to their right and creek to their left.

It was a show off betwixt the children of the 2 war gods, and those e'er proved to exist two things: encarmine and memorable. Rapidly, all of the devious campers either ran from the gore or picked their seat to watch it become downwardly.

Vulgar words were exchanged, swords clashed, and shouts echoed through the forest. Everyone'due south focus was on Malcolm, who had somehow managed to pin Clarisse against a tree. Only momentarily, of course. She was shortly out of his grasp and they began facing off as anybody watched on.

With no alert, the audio of rushing water overtook the air. Onlookers eyes were fatigued away from the battle to the sight of the creek, filling with more and more water. It seemed to accept doubled in width past the time Clarisse took find of it.

"What the-" she began.

She was cut off by a wall of water rushing over her head, a wave fabricated by the two arrivals who seemed to have ridden down on the creek.

Percy and Annabeth emerged from the stream, enemy flag in hand. Annabeth shook it aggressively in the air, earning a shout of victory from her teammates. The Ares warriors stood in disbelief.

"Thanks for bringing all your best warriors out here, away from your flag, Clarisse," Annabeth mocked. "It fabricated Percy's job a whole lot easier."

"I only had to launder out iii kids. Child's play, really," Percy added, smirking over at the campers now done downstream.

Clarisse scowled and turned, storming off.

"How- your team hadn't fifty-fifty moved out yet-" a son of Ares muttered.

Annabeth smiled snidely. "Best not to wonder well-nigh things that are above your level of competence. Get out thinking to the Athena motel."

Percy bumped her shoulder. "And me," he chided. "Don't get taking all the credit."

She sighed, but looped her arm through his and they turned to walk back towards Camp, enemy flag in tow.

By the time they reached Chiron with news of their victory, the game had started no more than 20 minutes ago. Campers had gathered all around, nearly looking bellyaching that their fighting had been cut so short.

And that's when Chiron decided that Annabeth and Percy would never be on the same team for Capture the Flag over again.
